The Dumpster pool is perhaps the most brilliant of brilliant summer ingenuities. Co-opting a fire hydrant for a little cool-down action has moxie, you understand, but only until a truckload of pissed-off firemen arrive. But a pool that bypasses all manner of construction equipment to bring you a deep, shimmering (and presumably detritus-free) dipping experience? Wonderful. And I haven’t even told you about the swim-up bar yet! Oh, but let’s first-things-first, shall we? The Dumpster innovation is brought to us by our friends at the Design District Market at the Dallas Contemporary, 161 Glass St., from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday. The delightful indoor-outdoor event features around 80 vendors, including jewelry mavens f. is for frank, furniture/accessory gurus The Wooden House and flip-flop masters Hari Mari. There’ll be a food truck oasis, live music from The Effinays, The Birds of Night, Ronnie Hart, and Robbie Saunders, and of course socially acceptable Dumpster diving. And, because the Dallas Contemporary is never one to let an artistic opportunity pass, the object of our watery daydreams will be all painted up by street-art collective Sour Grapes. Amazingly, admission to this urban summer utopia is free. Visit designdistrictmarket.com for more.
