Bonnie And Clyde, Holed Up in Meridian

David Lowery’s newest film, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints, popped up with dogpiling positive responses, snatching up awards at each stop on the recent festival circuit. After more flattering words by the The New Yorker and others, ATBS opened in select cities last week. Friday night, everyone else gets a gander as it releases here in Lowery’s hometown at the Magnolia (3699 McKinney Ave.). The film stirs with Southern prophecy, released through the slow-cooked romance of Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck, who find themselves separated after a botched armed robbery. Together or apart, the pair seems fated to learn the transfer effects summoned by past sins, and how those misdeeds weigh against an inarguable desire for one another. It’s shot as crisp as sheets on the line and filled with vast open spaces and unhurried prose. Ain't Them Bodies Saints is a must-see for any film lover, Texan or not, so catch this one before it’s put to pasture. Visit landmarktheatres.com for showtimes. Tickets cost $11.
