There’s an old saying about how a day without wine could have been better. It’s true — there isn’t much that a glass of nicely fermented grapes can’t brighten up, unless you count your teeth. So get that call in to the dentist now to postpone your whitening session: The 27th Annual Grapefest is here to make your glass half full (and your chompers half purple) Thursday through Sunday at the Grapevine Convention and Visitors Center, 636 S. Main St. downtown. Take part in the People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic, where you can sample 140 Texas wines, or just hit up the wine pavilions to try zillions more varietals throughout the event. Somewhere between the pinots and the Rieslings try to fit in some carnival rides, live music and culinary demos. And if you’re looking to uncork some family fun, the event is totally kid-friendly, with plenty of midway games and a vintage train show. The festival is open 10 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. until the last grape is stomped at 6 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy free admission all day Thursday and Friday until 5:30 p.m.; after that, it’s $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. Tickets to individual events (like the Wine Tasting Classic), tickets for rides and tickets for food and drink are separate. Visit grapevinetexasusa.com/grapefest for more information.
