At the behest of Mayor Mike Rawlings, county commissioner Elba Garcia and council member Dwaine Caraway, the City of Dallas will host four panel discussions about race. The first of these discussions kicks off Saturday at the Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St, at 10 a.m. While later panels will focus on topics like youth and business leadership, this first one will deal with the media, and local journalists will make up the panel: Crystal Ayala, anchor for Univision Dallas; Mollie Finch Belt of the Dallas Examiner; Gerald Britt of CitySquare; Bob Ray Sanders from the Fort-Worth Star Telegram; and Robert Wilonsky of The Dallas Morning News. The panels all lead up to next year’s Facing Race conference, which has previously taken place in Baltimore and San Francisco, and in 2014 will be in Dallas. The event is free and open to the public, but you’ll need to go to conversationsaboutrace.eventbrite.com to reserve a seat.
