For the past few years State of the Arts, a panel series hosted by KERA-FM 90.1’s Jeff Whittington and presented by the same station’s Art & Seek, has been bringing fascinating conversations about art to North Texas. The series has brought together scenic designers, photojournalists, composers and museum directors to discuss topics like early careers, the role of the audience and arts education. This past year’s talk on “Art and Technology” won the prestigious Best Panel Discussion from the ever-esteemed Dallas Observer. This time around, Whittington and company will focus on “Contemporary Artists,” including panelists (artists all) Christopher Blay, curator at the Art Corridor Galleries; Janeil Engelstad, founder of Make Art With Purpose; and Stephen Lapthisophon, visiting professor at University of Texas-Arlington (and one of our fascinating People Issue profiles). The panel starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 North Harwood St., with $5 general admission. Visit dma.org.
