When the phrase “national treasure” gets tossed around, it’s usually questionable or an outright joke. For example, “Ted Cruz is a national treasure” is questionable. “Taylor Swift is a national treasure” is clearly a joke. The statement “Tom Hanks is a national treasure” is neither of those things. Tom Hanks is simply a national treasure. Celebration of all things Hanks has evolved into an unofficial holiday called Hanksgiving. While some people celebrate on July 9, the day the man was born, comedy troupe Master Pancake has chosen to have their Hanksgiving festivities closer to the real Thanksgiving, presumably to avoid confusion on their calendars. Master Pancake’s Hanksgiving show goes on at 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse, 100 S. Central Expressway, and comics will roast clips from Splash, Castaway, Toy Story, The Da Vinci Code and more. Does anyone remember Volunteers with John Candy, back from 1985? Dear God, we hope someone else does. Visit drafthouse.com for tickets.
