College campuses have grown quiet post graduation. Soon, the sound of over-achieving will be faintly heard during summer school classes, but really how much noise can those 4.0 seekers make? If Southern Methodist University’s campus has grown eerily silent, the Lev Aronson Cello Festival arrives this week to change that. Named for the inspirational 20th century cellist who survived Nazi concentration camps and eventually made a home in Dallas, where he served as the principal cellist at the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and taught hundreds of students around the globe. A former student of Aronson’s organized the first festival last year and he brings it back this year, with a week of world-class solo cello recitals and master classes. Catch the opening gala concert at 7 p.m. Monday at SMU’s O’Donnell Hall, 6101 Bishop Blvd, Room 2130. Concerts take place each night through Saturday at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $20; festival passes are $60. More information is available at levaronsonlegacy.com.
Mondays-Saturdays, 7 p.m. Starts: June 9. Continues through June 14, 2014
