So few days each year are designated for real family time that it would be a waste to spend Independence Day on your dang smartphone. You’ve gotta park that phone, stop looking at photos crazy friend posted of herself drinking a placenta smoothie and admit that technology probably ruins everything. I mean, if you want to live-Tweet fireworks displays and spend your day cropping photos of your toddler trying to eat corn on the cob, then more battery power to you. But if you want to get back to the basics, Dallas Heritage Village, 1515 South Harwood, has just the Independence Day celebration for you. The Old Fashioned Fourth takes place at 11 a.m. Friday and is an unplugged family festival that takes pride in its rustic revelry—we’re talking wagon rides, stick pony races, macaroni necklace-making, and lemonade. There’ll also be toe-tapping musical performances, a parade, and 1800s-era carnival games as part of this patriotic throwback. The bygone bash starts at 11 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, and free for kids ages 12 and under. Visit dallasheritagevillage.org for more.
