Burlesque has recently made one hell of a comeback, and with all of its innovations and evolutions, it’s easy to forget the art form’s roots. If you’re a new convert to the craft, trained only by a few YouTube videos of Dita Von Teese, then consider heading out to the House of Blues (2200 N. Lamar St.) for some proper, in-person tutelage. (Psst, that’s the best kind of learning!) There, you’ll find the ladies of The Ruby Revue performing pages right out of the burlesque history books (we made that last bit up, but wouldn’t school have been better if History of Strip Tease 101 had been an option?) for a show called Stripping Through the Ages. It’s a gem of a thing, featuring dancers, chorus girls and other variety show favorites, and while it honors classic subject matter, be warned: this isn’t your grandmother’s burlesque. The Ruby Revue and its award-winning performers begin entertaining the 18-and-older crowd starting at 10 p.m. (doors at 9 p.m.) Thursday in the Cambridge Room at the House of Blues. Tickets are $20 to $40. Call 214-978-BLUE or visit houseofblues.com.
