Boyz Will Be Boyz

Over the past couple of years, Amy Winehouse and a whole slew of up-and-coming artists have made it their (show) business to capitalize on a nouveau soul revival. 'Course, Winehouse has made a decided effort lately to work harder on her soulless lifestyle than a soulful sound, but we're sure her heart's still in the right place, assuming it's still beating as of press time. Good news, though: It now looks like actual black recording artists are taking over for foreign white women in the neo-soul sphere. We're talking about Boyz II Men, y'all. Motown Philly is, in fact, back again, on a U.S. tour promoting their new record, Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville, U.S.A., which features the Boyz covering artists such as the Miracles and Marvin Gaye. With all the throwback fanfare, this is no tour of smoky underground soul clubs--the group is coming to the Bass Performance Hall with Grammy-nominated R&B artist Eric Benet. It's not like the guys who brought us "I'll Make Love to You" would settle for anything less than pure class, right? Boyz II Men appear at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth, this Wednesday, July 1, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 to $55. Visit
Wed., July 1, 8 p.m., 2009
