But What Am I?

There's a lot of things about Pee-Wee Herman that you wouldn't understand. Things you couldn't understand. Things you shouldn't understand. Most of them happened in an adult movie theater in Florida, but that's a story for another time. In Tim Burton's Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Herman spins yarns long and wide. But at the heart of the film is a boy who's lost his one true love. It's a film so educational it's practically a documentary. As you canvass the country with Pee-Wee, you’ll learn about the thousands of uses for corn, and that there's no basement at the Alamo. You'll hear stories from ex-cons, lady truck drivers, a waitress with a big "but" and the girl who loves the boy who loves his bike. Most important, you'll learn the single sentence that helped me survive junior high. And no matter what Pee-Wee did (or does) in the dark privacy of a triple-X movie, I'll always be grateful for that. Crazy? I know you are, but what am I? Pee-Wee's Big Adventure shows at midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane at Inwood Road. Admission is $8.50. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com.
