Corny Dog Time

In DFW, nothing says Fall quite like temperatures below 90 degrees, Cowboys football, and the great State Fair of Texas. I'd be willing to bet (basically for no other reason than state pride and instinct) that no other city or state's attempt at a fair of any sort can even begin to rival the spectacle held each year at Fair Park. From the livestock pavilions to the automobile buildings, Texas/OU weekend to those damn adorable dog shows, it's all amazing. Throw in a bevy of live entertainment, the Midway and all of the fried fare you can stand, and there are more opportunities for fun (and indigestion) than you could dare even imagine. To top it all off, for those people who are transfixed by the bright and shiny, each evening features a parade throughout the grounds (at 7:15 p.m.) and a light and pyrotechnic show (at 8 p.m.), creatively dubbed "Illumination Sensation." Word to the wise--save your money. Nowadays, it will probably cost you $45 worth of coupons to ride the giant ferris wheel, but the view of downtown Dallas just might be worth every penny. The fair opens on Friday and runs daily through Sunday, October 17. Gates and exhibits open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.; museums on the grounds have varying operational hours.
