Criminal Minds

We love book clubs, but most of them are speculative. We really don't know what the author meant by certain turns of phrase, or how the story was originally conceived. Since it gives us a headache to think about it too much, our book clubs end up with lengthy snack times. But this month's Borders book club avoids that by bringing in their book's author herself for a reading and Q&A session. Local criminal defense attorney and lesbian fiction author Carsen Taite's It Should Be a Crime includes student/teacher romance and a drama-filled murder trial. Just try to avoid asking "Whodunnit?" Even the most amiable, book club-friendly author won't give away the ending. Carsen Taite signs It Should Be a Crime 7 p.m. Thursday at Borders Uptown, 3600 McKinney Ave. Admission is free.
