We’re heading into that particular stretch of summer when the baseball season starts to flag a little for even us diehards. We love our Texas Rangers, to be sure, but when you’ve already caught a few games and eaten your way through a dozen dollar dogs in a Ballpark that’s hotter than a motha, a change of pace isn’t a bad idea. And this is a literal change of pace: Dirk Nowitzki’s 2013 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Dr Pepper Ballpark, 7300 Rough Riders in Frisco. The lovable German Maverick takes his talents to the diamond for this charity event, which benefits children’s charities, including the titular Dirk Nowitzki Foundation and the Heroes Foundation. Nowitzki will be joined by Dallas Maverick Vince Carter and owner Mark Cuban, Dallas Cowboys Dez Bryant and Brandon Carr, former Mavs Jason Terry, J.J. Barea, Brian Cardinal, Michael Finley, Devin Harris, Eduardo Najera and Nick Van Exel, former Cowboys Drew Pearson and Terrell Owens, actor Geoff Stults and more. Tickets are $8 to $17, a small price to pay to see your favorite athletes get out of their comfort zones and try their hand at pop flies and line drives. Visit ticketmaster.com for tickets or e-stalk Dirk for more information.
