I can't remember when it became a trend for theaters to play old movies, but it's the best idea ever since The Goonies went in search of pirate treasure. Next up for Midnight Madness at Inwood Theatre is The Last of the Mohicans starring Daniel Day-Lewis. And if you haven't seen this since it opened in 1992, the time has come. After all, we don't see much of Daniel Day-Lewis. He's only been in a handful of films in the past decade, but every film is Oscar gold, namely Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood. The film is set during the French and Indian War in colonial America, and Day-Lewis plays Hawkeye, a white man reared by Native Americans who rescues the daughters of a British colonel from attack. And never mind that a movie called The Last of the Mohicans stars a white guy. This is a romance novel on screen, with Day-Lewis' rippling muscles, flowing hair and a moving soundtrack to intoxicate the ladies, but plenty of war and bloodshed to satisfy the guys. Midnight showings are Friday and Saturday at Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students.
