Even the street style of a city like Johannesburg is enough to make a Dallas fashionista envious. Those seemingly effortless pairings have layers of complicated design behind them — and once you delve into couture runway looks, well, just step aside, USA. We get a chance to open the window and see takes on the continent’s style as told by local and African designers for the next three days at Africa Fashion Week Dallas. Kicking off from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, there will be runway shows, a red carpet launch and opening ceremony. In the mood for something savory? Taste the delicious global dishes doled out nightly by the owner of CL Concept Catering, executive chef Chizo Ikwuagwu. There are fashion shows each evening of the weekend, closing out on Sunday which is when you’ll get a peek at “Another Face of Africa,” the newest issue by lux style magazine AMOIZE. Get turned on to new designers and explore Africa’s influence in the Dallas fashion industry. AFWD occurs at both the Texas Star Events Facility, at 11621 Reeder Road, and at the Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre (5410 Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway). Tickets range from $20 for one-night general admission to $240 for a plantinum VIP, full-weekend pass. Get them at http://afwdallas.eventbrite.com.
