Fig, Ya Dig?

They're doing The Marriage of Figaro! For those who groan at the mention of the word opera, let me just add to your misery by assuring you that Mozart did write it and it's in Italian. I know, now you really don't want to make the trek all the way down to the Music Hall at Fair Park to see the Dallas Opera perform the show that holds the record for being the most performed opera in the world. But this is fun opera, people. Mozart took a play intended as a scathing indictment of the wanton upper classes and boiled it down to a light romantic comedy, a bit of slapstick with classical music and underpinnings of social criticism. For those looking for an introduction to opera, this show is a good way to finally meet. Then you too can put your nose in the air and say things like, "Oh, I must prepare to sally forth and take in that opera by Mozart." People will think you're smart, and honestly, if you take the time to see this opera, you are smart. The Marriage of Figaro runs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 p.m. next Friday, November 21, at the Music Hall. Tickets start at $29. Visit
Fri., Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m.; Sun., Nov. 16, 2 p.m.; Wed., Nov. 19, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m., 2008
