First, I'm not a sports writer. Thus, I won't ramble off statistics about shooting averages. I won't ponder what teams need to win and lose which game to determine the path to the championships. All I'm going to say is I hope the Mavericks mow down the Spurs like a swarm of locusts through an Australian wheat crop while crushing the Spurs' self-esteem into a pulp of gelatinous cartilage that Dirk and company will have to painstakingly remove from the soles of their shoes in the locker room. While that is happening, I hope that Avery Johnson's superior coaching will pierce Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's cerebral cortex resulting in a blank slate of dumbfoundery and a gaping mouth. Anything that will erase the spanking they took from the Phoenix Suns earlier this month, which has been seared into my memory bank, not to mention the recent tete-a-tete with the Sacramento Kings that was a little too close for comfort. Yes, that is what I wish. Your Dallas Mavericks face the San Antonio Spurs here at home at the American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave., 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Good luck with tickets.
