Herb and Dorothy Vogel are two New York civil servants, a postal clerk and a librarian, who managed to amass one of the biggest collections of contemporary and conceptual art of the last 50 years. All told they had nearly 5,000 pieces, including works by Picasso and John Chamberlain. In 2008 director Megumi Sasaki made Herb & Dorothy, a documentary about the couple that interviewed artists as renowned as Christo and Jeanne-Claude and photographer Chuck Close. Herb & Dorothy 50x50 is the follow-up documentary about the Vogels as they formally say goodbye to art collecting, and considering all the international film festival accolades given the first documentary, this one is well worth seeing. Herb and Dorothy 50x50 plays at 6 p.m. Friday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Tickets are $8.50, $6.50 for Modern members.
