When some of us here at Night & Day hear "Valley Ranch" we're thinking more about condiments, not athletics. But hey, it takes all kinds, and we understand there are people who crave electrolytes, not dippin' sauce. So, if you're the kind who likes to jog or run there's the Valley Ranch Pumpkin Dash. This 5K race along a fast and flat course boasts ChampionChip timing for those who wish to be eligible for awards and a 1K "fun run." For family members who wish to wait it out at the finish line, there's a Fall Festival that includes a pet costume contest, kids' and adults' Halloween costume contests, kids' games and pumpkin patch photo area. Proceeds go to benefit the Salvation Army, so enjoy a great morning out to benefit others this holiday season. It all goes down 7:30 a.m. Saturday (with an awards presentation at 10 a.m.) at Cimarron Park Recreation Center, 201 Red River Trail in Irving. The Family Fall Festival goes until noon. Registration fees are $15 to $25. Visit getmeregistered.com for more information.
