Green Day

As you probably know, a lot of people like to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17. And that's cool, I guess, but when I was a kid, we reserved that day for the birthday celebration of someone whom we considered to be a true saint: Billy "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" Corgan. That's right. Instead of wearing green and putting little shamrock stickers on our cheeks, we donned shiny silver pants and black "Zero" t-shirts. And instead of pinching anyone who neglected to wear green, we flicked anyone who wasn't sporting silver and black. Needless to say, we got pinched until our arms and legs were covered in miniature bruises, but that's beside the point. The point is, we were heroes. Anyway, if you're into that whole St. Patrick's Day thing, you should check out the 29th Annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade. More than 1,500 participants will march down Greenville at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by an after-party at Energy Square, at the Northwest corner of Greenville and University. The party goes from noon to 6 p.m. and features Ghostland Observatory. (You must be 21 or older to attend.) Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at For more information, call 214-757-9000.
Sat., March 15, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2008
