Did you know that the University of Texas system is the largest wine producer in the state? Yes, folks, it's right there in black and white on Wikipedia, so it must be true. And, yeah, it's a little surprising that UT dabbles in the winery business, but when you think about it, what could be more natural than pairing a university with massive amounts of alcohol? Speaking of which, if you're the type that prefers a glass of Chardonnay to a lukewarm Keystone Light, head to Grapevine this weekend for the 21st annual Grapefest, a massive festival celebrating Texas wines. The festivities take place today through Sunday and include a carnival, people's choice wine tasting, vintner's auction, Grapestomp, KidZone for the little ones and a culinary pavilion featuring cooking demonstrations and wine education. Or, if you're the sporty type, watch or join in the 16th annual Grapefest Tennis Classic at Hilton DFW Lakes. Admission to Grapefest is free until 5 p.m. Friday. Tickets for Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday are $8 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. For tickets or more information, call 817-410-3185 or visit GrapevineTexasUSA.com.
