Let's Make Memories

Memory jugs were created as a way to honor the dead. Oftentimes holes were provided so the spirit wouldn’t get trapped inside the container. Of course, Bruce Lee Webb, that crazy coot, will offer way more insight on this delightfully quirky tradition in his Oil & Cotton class aptly titled Memory Jugs with Bruce Lee Webb. Students are invited to craft their own jugs and though Mason jars, plaster putty, paint and knickknacks will be provided, there’s no law against bringing your own vessel and private stash of odds and ends. Let’s just hope yours is a bit more robust than my handful of abandoned buttons, rogue dental floss and Hello Kitty scissors dating back to the early 1980s. They’re practically vintage. The class costs $35 and runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Oil & Cotton (837 W. 7th St. in Oak Cliff). Register now at oilandcotton.com.
