It started in Chicago, this act of women disrobing and reading stories. Burlesque performers Michelle L’Amour and Franky Vivid thought it would make an interesting paradox: Women, gussied in only boudoir makeup and hair, politely reading on a stage. As will happen when ladies take their clothes off, tickets sold out. The empire of Naked Girls Reading has now expanded globally, and gals in most major cities have signed up to cozy down, book in hand, and read passages from their favorite stories. This particular series, happening at the Quixotic World (1116 S. Akard St.), is called “Fairy Tails,” and local novelist Vanessa Vaughn joins performers Black Mariah, Courtney Crave, Angi B. Lovely and Bonnie Lou, all of whom will regale you with moral-rich stories in the nude. It’s been said that the lack of clothing isn’t so much erotic as it is hypnotizing. Odd. And strangely less distracting than a more traditional delivery method. Find out for yourself this evening at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and you must be 18 to attend. The event is BYOB for ages 21 and up. Buy tickets at nakedgirlsreading.com/dallas/.
