Mmm, trite jokes: They go great with hyperbole and a nice Shiraz. Like when someone says "Man, I wish these kids would come with an instruction manual, HAHAHA!" In that case, it's a great idea to say "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard!" and order another Shiraz, because you sure as heck don't have some piddly family to go home to later, now do you? No, siree. Turns out, though, life in general does have an instruction manual--ReadyMade magazine. Its slogan, "instructions for everyday life," includes awesome tips on how to make easy-peasy chairs out of old belts and a clock out of a VHS tape. Precisely whose everyday life they mean, I don't know, but maybe one could find out at the ReadyMade workshop this Thursday or the ReadyMade creators and editors' "conversation" this Friday at the Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N. Harwood St. Thursday night's DIY workshop, at 7 p.m., uses recyclable objects from the DMA's current Frank Gehry exhibit Materials & Meanings. The next night, the ReadyMade folks will be on hand during Late Night at the DMA at 9 p.m. to talk about reusing materials to make cool DIY goodness. Admission is $10 or less. Visit dallasmusemofart.org.
Thu., Sept. 18, 7 p.m.; Fri., Sept. 19, 9 p.m., 2008
