Night of the Living Art

Midwinter. Bleak if you have psoriasis or seasonal affective disorder. Unbearably bleak if your husband crashed his truck, fractured his vertebrae and has to wear a back brace for two more months. Profoundly bleak since all you can think about is sex. Your therapist suggests you try new things: "distraction and substitution." Celibacy or suicide, you consider. Take a 30-hour break from your wretched existence this weekend with the Dallas Museum of Art's All Night/Late Night diversion from 11 a.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday. For families, the DMA is planning a stroller parade led by the Kumaasi African drum troupe and drop-in art activities in the Gateway Galley. Kid-less and sex-less folk can enjoy a midnight movie marathon featuring J.R.R. Tolkien blockbusters, an insomniac museum tour, live music and a pajama dance party. For tickets ($6 for adults, $4 for seniors or kids 12 and older and free for DMA members and kids under 12) and the full schedule, call 214-922-1200. --Annabelle Massey Helber

Tune In, Sit Down

Forget watercolors of sunsets; throw out pastels of sailboats. The people want chairs, and by God they'll get chairs. In Gallery 414's latest exhibition, One Vacant Chair, all featured art is chair-centric and ripe for the sitting...except for the paintings. No sitting on those. The exhibit opens with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at 414 Templeton, Fort Worth. Call 817-926-4111. --Mary Monigold

Dame Straight

Think you know everything about Dallas history? Well, you're wrong. But if you'd like to get closer to omniscience, visit the Dallas Historical Society's lecture series "Great Dames and Tall Texans." This week's lecturer will be real estate icon Ebby Halliday Acers. The program begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hall of State, 3939 Grand Ave. in Fair Park. Call 214-421-4500. --Mary Monigold
