Photography used to be such an intimidating art form — all darkrooms and pricey lenses and f-stops. Those things are all still an important part of the artistry, but now induction into the photo club is much more accessible than it was even a decade ago. Today, the most famous of photographers make their work accessible on Instagram; pop-up photography workshops are everywhere; and plenty of the various processes and equipment that were generally out of reach for many aspiring photogs are now easier to access thanks to technological advancements. The 2014 PhotoTXcetera Photography and Digital Festival aims to capitalize on this photographic renaissance and all it entails during its two-day run at Valley View Mall, 13331 Preston Road, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. The free event will feature the work of Texas photographers and digital artists in two concurrent art shows, and will offer panel discussions and lectures on topics as varied as electron microscope photography, fashion photography, portraiture, photojournalism and landscape imagery. Photography buffs, serious artists and Instagram aficionados will all walk away with new inspiration and know-how. Visit phototxcetera.com for the schedule of events.
Sat., April 26, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2014
