Pouring One Out for Beta

For 26 years this festival has brought Dallas some of the most unexpected finds in contemporary video work and video art. You’ve got curator/organizer/big brain Bart Weiss to thank for that. He travels to conventions that you’ve never heard of to find the movies you need to see. This year’s Dallas VideoFest gets a grand casing, thanks to sponsorship by the area’s newest theater, Alamo Drafthouse Richardson (100 S. Central Expressway). The weekend-long fest offers a home-movies segment, narrative features, a panel discussion on Google Glass by people who use those nifty gadgets, documentaries, shorts and even a special screening of Dallas Mavericks videos, presented by the behind-the-scenes folks making the things. Tickets can be purchased individually or as a weekend pass, the latter of which is cool because it gets you access to the festival lounge. (Mmm, lounge.) Saturday and Sunday passes are $25. Individual screenings are $8, and a full-access pass is $150, with package discounts and reduced fees for seniors. Visit videofest.org.
