My house is definitely not a net zero energy house. But such things do exist. GreenCraft Builders just put up a new house in Lewisville--the TimberCreek Net Zero Energy House--and as its name suggests, the house produces as much or more energy than it consumes over the course of a year. (I guess it's like how if you burned all the calories you ate, you would weigh zero pounds. Which would be terrible.) The house has solar panels, a deck made of recycled plastic, a 3,000-gallon rainwater collection system for irrigation and more. Tours are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays each weekend through November 22. To get to the house, park at the Westside Baptist Church, 900 W. Bellaire St. in Lewisville, and wait for the shuttle. For hours and more details, visit greencraftbuilders.com.
