For many of us, Leslie Nielsen's death in November also meant the death of one of the most beloved comedic characters of the early '90s: Sergeant Frank Drebin, star of the three Naked Gun films. In fact, a fourth Naked Gun picture, Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil, was supposedly in the works at the time of Nielsen's death in 2010, a good 16 years after the third film was released. The Naked Gun series was so hilarious and effective for a number of reasons, the most obvious of which was the genius casting. Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley and O.J. Simpson in one film together. Plus, the films' many cameos now seem like a veritable "who's who" of the '90s -- Weird Al Yankovic, James Earl Jones, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Mel Torme, Raquel Welch and Reggie Jackson: So awesome. Relive the glory days of Nielsen's career Friday and Saturday night at the Inwood Theatre, as they show Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) as part of their Midnight Madness series.
