The 4th Annual Hypnotic Polar Plunge asks you to jump into the frigid waters of the FOE pool to raise money for the Greater Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Freezing your ass off won't be how they earn the money, the cold, hard cash you hand over to do it will do the most good. It's $10 to jump, free to spectate. Sales from Deep Ellum Brewing Co. beers and Just Q BBQ will also earn cash for the Alzheimer's Association. Starts at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Consider this your gentle reminder that Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic closes this weekend at The Modern (3200 Darnell St., Fort Worth). It's definitely worth the drive to funky town to see this enormous exhibition of his sculptures and paintings, including a number of his stained glass pieces. It's a fascinating peek at a mid-career artist who is redefining the way black people are portrayed in art. While you're there, check out the Joyce Pensato exhibition as well. Admission is $10.
If you're looking for a place to sip champagne and hang out in art, head to Chalet in the Nasher Sculpture Center from 11 a.m. Friday - 11 a.m. Saturday. Conceived as a place of community by Italian artist Piero Golia, this social sculpture fills a street-facing gallery in the Nasher and is activated from time to time with events and parties. This weekend The Reading Room throws a 24 Hour Book Swap. Bring a book, take a book or listen to short readings from local artists and writers (myself included). Admission is free if you enter Chalet from the street at the southeast corner of the building. Champagne will be flowing.

You never know what musical shape shifter George Quartz has up their sleeve when a performance announces itself. But we're savvy enough to know we better show up. Maybe eventually we'll stop obsessing about the reboot of the Star Wars franchise. Eventually we'll stop picking apart the similarities between episode four and episode seven. Maybe. But not anytime soon. In fact, at 8 p.m. Sunday in between screenings of The Force Awakens, prominent local geeks will debate the merits of the new film at the Texas Theatre. Admission is free. The force is strong with this debate.
