If you hadn't noticed, boot camps have been among the hottest fitness trends for years, which is why Camp Gladiator -- one of the state's most popular boot camps -- holds its annual Gladiator Games in cities throughout Texas. As opposed to a week-long boot camp where intense training is emphasized, these games are a one-day event in which participants scale walls, jump through tires and carry water jugs around traffic cones (and pay between 40 and 60 bucks for the privilege). Described by the company as an "advanced urban obstacle course," the Gladiator Games are like Warrior Dash with no mud, less running and more obstacles. Spend the day reliving your elementary school recess memories while climbing monkey bars, scampering across balance beams and tumbling down inflatable slides (seriously) at Southern Methodist University's Gerald Ford Stadium from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afterward, don't forget to pick up your obligatory T-shirt, which Camp Gladiator proudly boasts is "given, never sold." Registration continues on the day of the event for $60 until all spaces are filled. Participants must be at least 8 years old, and attendees of all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Visit gladiatorgames.com for more information.
