The Beginning of November, Post Halloween, Candy Coma Recovery Days--people have a lot of different names for November 1 and 2. But none sound as cool as Dia de los Muertos, the traditional Mexican holiday celebrating the memory of loved ones who've passed away. At 7 p.m. Saturday, bust out your Skeletor costume and come celebrate Dia de los Muertos a little early at the Rose Marine Theater, 1440 N. Main St. in Fort Worth. They'll have a drum and puppet procession all the way from Marine Park to the Rose Marine Theater Plaza, plus music, dancing, face painting and even a Dia de los Muertos altar competition. Alice Laussade writes about food, kids, music, and anything else she finds to be completely ridiculous. She created and hosts the Dallas event, Meat Fight, which is a barbecue competition and fundraiser that benefits the National MS Society. Last year, the event raised $100,000 for people living with MS, and 750 people could be seen shoving sausage links into their faces. And one time, she won a James Beard Award for Humor in Writing. That was pretty cool.
