This Deep Ellum gem is known for one of the best hamburgers in town, along with its famous homemade root beer and milkshakes that can be ordered with Bailey's or amaretto. But for those hoping to avoid a future of getting drunk on milkshakes and packing on calories from hamburgers, the turkey burger is a way to satisfy your craving for meat without all the guilt. Unlike most places that use ground turkey, Twisted Root serves up a slice of moist turkey meat and places it on a wheat bun. And, like everything else on the menu, they are happy to customize it any way you like it. We like a slice of Swiss cheese and bacon, but then we're just extra health-conscious.

Scumbags ripped off my credit card and charged their cable and water bill.

Dave's Hamburger Emporium (1.5 blocks N of Belt Line on Montfort/Knoll Trail) - This place was only opened for about a week in 2008, but watch out for it in 2009. The biggest, juicest burgers chargrilled to perfection and loaded with generous toppings. The hours aren't the greatest, but get in there before everyone finds out about it and the line is out the door!

I have never been so disappointed as I was on my visit to Twisted Root. I've read the reviews which all say it's great! It was less than fantastic. The food wouldn't even make my top 10. The burger was nothing special. The onion rings were the worst I've ever tasted. I would NEVER go back.

Jake's is a sad choice for a burger, people. Go and walk ACROSS the street from Twisted Root to Angry Dog. I have had Jake's, I've had Keller's, I've had Houston's and Angry Dog is far superior.

I have eaten all those places and Keller's is my favorite from the ones mentioned but the best burger I have ever had is LG's on Greenville (just south of 635). That was a few years ago and I have been back since then and I am not sure what happened but they were not near as good anymore. I have not been back since so I don't know if I just went on a bad day or what but hopefully they fired the person working that day.

Ok Bradley, calm down. You may have all the money over there in Highland Park, but open your eyes. You're not criticizing the critics, you're criticizing the readers, like me! By the way, LH Jakes takes the cake!

This category is worthless without mention of Keller's. Best ... burger ... ever. Get the No. 3 with extra sauce or the No. 5 with tots and you'll thank me.

How is Jake's the Readers Choice? Do you people enjoy your burgers falling apart in your hands? Get out of Uptown! Go eat a real burger!
