Can Neftali Feliz Save Your Texas Rangers?
He's converted 31 of 34 save chances. He struck out the side in Sunday's important 6-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He's even gone to the dominating dreadlocks wrapped in a bandana.
But when push comes to shove and the Texas Rangers need a crucial inning, do we trust Neftali Feliz?
Yesterday he enters the ninth and promptly surrenders a homer to Ty Wigginton. After what appeared to be an ass-chewing visit by manager Ron Washington he promptly struck out the next three batters.
It's been a while since Feliz topped 100 mph on the radar gun and, to me, he doesn't use his devastating 77 mph curve enough. But I think I trust him.
One thing I know. Every great team has a great closer. Or do they?
In 1996 the Rangers had closer Mike Henneman with 31 saves. But somehow he was 0-7 with a 5.79 ERA.
In 1998 and '99 the Rangers had closer Jon Wetteland with 42 saves and 43 saves.
In 2010, do the Rangers have a reliable door-slammer in Feliz?
