A Wave Worth Riding
Perhaps you’ve looked at the Internet lately and noticed that it’s not really a good place to get your kumbaya-yas. Things are terribly fractious. Someone’s waging an online war with one of your Facebook friends over gun control, and election season caused you to block a couple of political nut-jobs. Also, you remembered that Violentacrez dude existed. Not encouraging. But the people of the Deen Institute of North America and the Muslim Student Association of SMU would like to restore your faith in humanity, even just a little, during Waves of Unity 2012. From 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, the Dallas Convention Center Arena (650 South Griffin St.) plays host to a gathering for people of all faiths, in hopes of opening channels of communication and new avenues of understanding to encourage the kind of tolerance we forget people are capable of. Bring the whole family to see speakers ranging from Muslim scholars to Christian pastors to NFL Players Hamza and Husain Abdullah. Performers include the Dallas String Quartet and comedian Aman Ali. Tickets are $25 to $100 and babysitting is available for $10 per kiddo. Visit wavesofunity.com for more.
