All That Chazz

Most people who were graduates of something in the 1990s remember A Bronx Tale as Robert DeNiro’s directorial debut about a kid torn between his bond with his father and his sudden ties to organized crime. Pop culture freaks have a soft spot for the film because Weevil from Veronica Mars is in it, but that’s neither here nor there. A Bronx Tale actually began as a play — an autobiographical, one-man play written by actor Chazz Palminteri — before Robert DeNiro talked ol’ Chazz (born Calogero, like in the Tale) into letting him put it on the big screen. Now, 23 years after the play premiered in Los Angeles, and in celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary, the Elder “C” is bringing his story back to the stage, specifically a Dallas one. This production of A Bronx Tale at the AT&T Performing Arts Center marks the first time it has been performed live in this city, and tickets start at just $39. See Palminteri bring a little strong language and a lot of Big Apple to Big D at 8:30 p.m. Friday or 8 p.m. Saturday. Visit attpac.org.
