We figured the cult of celebrity had reached new depths of obsessive behavior in December after Scarlett Johansson blew her nose into a Kleenex on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and the snot-rag was sold on eBay for $5,300. Seemed to top the salon owner who wanted to sell the tresses she had lopped off a then-bald Britney Spears for a cool million, until eBay put the kibosh on the sale because a plethora of hair-peddling impostors would have forced post-auction DNA testing to make certain each follicle was legit. Perhaps this is sociological, but why are we willing to cough up good money for celebrity secretions? At least our local celebs actually give us something of value for our fixations--or rather they will when they take the field in the Eighth Annual Reebok Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game 6 p.m. Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco. The famous and the familiar will include Mike Modano, Marty Turco, Mark Cuban, DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten and Michael Irvin. They will be among those who choose sides and play ball to benefit the children's charities of The Heroes Foundation and The Mike Modano Foundation. Plenty of other stuff to do, including tailgating, a home-run derby and fireworks. For more info, go to heroesbaseball.org.
