Bake Me A Face As Fast As You Can
Did someone say meat pies? Or was it priest pies? Mrs. Lovett is at it again, and this time it's not Helena Bonham Carter who's serving up the hot plates. We suspect the Tony award-winning musical play Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street will have you feeling just as squeamish as Tim Burton's gory film. You might want to watch out for those barber blades. In the play, Benjamin Barker, a poor and unfortunate soul, is torn apart from his wife and daughter when he is unjustly arrested and thrown in prison. Returning years later to seek revenge and reunite with his family, Barker, who changes his name to Sweeney Todd, learns of his wife's death through the playful but conniving Mrs. Lovett. Blood is shed, and body parts are baked. With a gut-wrenching plot, there's no telling who the next victim will be. Parents are strongly cautioned as some material may not be suitable for children. The production runs from Tuesday through November 15 at the Casa Mañana Theatre, 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. Tickets range from $35 to $55. For more information call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
