Balls Be Droppin'
Put a cork in 2012, it’s done. And whether it was a good one for you or a regular horribilis, the important thing to remember is that the calendar starts anew at midnight, giving you a fresh start and a chance to bro hug errrreybody in proximity. And there are options aplenty for your New Year’s festivity of choice. In the one-stop-shop department, check out Medieval Times’ New Year’s Eve Extravaganza at 9:45 p.m. The fortress of cheesy fifth-century fun at 2021 N. Stemmons Freeway pulls out all the stops for an epic celebration that includes a two-hour jousting tournament plus hors d’oeuvres, a four-course meal, Champagne toast at midnight and a total knight-life experience (sorry). Tickets are $69.95 and may be purchased at medievaltimes.com. Or maybe you need something a little less mead-and-ale and a little more rum-and-tang? The Double-Wide, 3501 Commerce St., is your place to hunker down if that’s the case. Their New Year’s Eve bashes are legendary, and this one, with Hall and Oates tribute band The Rich Girls and Cramps dead-ringers The Gorehounds, oughta be wilder than a tornado in a trailer park. Tickets are $10 at prekindle.com. Too dressed up for a patio lined with toilets? The 2012 New Year’s Eve with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra is the proper venue for your glam and glitz. Slam a glass of wine in the lobby of the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St., before you settle in for an evening of Hungarian dances and Strauss waltzes starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $136 and there’s even a dinner buffet available for $31.50. Visit dallassymphony.com. Of course, if you crave crowds and fireworks and ball drops, you’ll want to join acquaintances auld and new from 7 p.m. until 1 a.m. at Big D NYE in Victory Park (3090 Olive St.). The biggest New Year’s celebration in the central time zone includes live music from Forever the Sickest Kids, Leogun, Pentatonix; a fleet of food trucks; and a monster fireworks show that launches as the clock strikes midnight. Admission is free; head to BigDNYE.com for party guidelines. Check out all of Dallas’ best parties in our New Year’s Eve guide, if you haven’t already.
