Avoid the restaurants like the plague on Valentine’s Day. Since the day itself falls on a Friday this year, it’ll be an unholy crush of lovers crowding the hostess stand and waiters rushing you through your attempts at romance. Make reservations for, like, Tuesday and spend Friday actually having some fun. There’s no excuse for fuming over being seated at a wobbly table next to the bathroom door when there are so many other options to get excited over — like Backdoor Comedy’s Champagne, Chocolates & Comedy Valentine’s Day Celebration at the Doubletree Hotel, 8250 N. Central Expressway. Stoke the flames of romance with some good belly laughs, courtesy of Aaron Aryanpur, Linda Stogner, Vince Quick and a complimentary glass of Champagne. There are two shows available, at 8 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., and tickets are $35 apiece at backdoorcomedy.com. Heat things up even more with the Valentine Flaming Cocktail Hot Date Night at Vetro Glassblowing Studio, 701 S. Main St. in Grapevine, from 5 to 9 p.m. You’ll sip blazing beverages, nosh hors d’oeuvres and make a heart-shaped glass keepsake with an assist from Vetro’s expert glassblowers. Snag tickets for $175 per couple at vetroartglass.com. Looking for something a bit more intimate? Register for Yoga For Two, led by PerfectFit Yoga owner Miranda Davis at her home studio in Fort Worth. You’ll practice poses designed to open communication and spark a little fire — plus there will be foot massages and a soothing tea to finish your evening out. See 1perfectfit.com for more information and to purchase a couple’s reservation for $65. And, finally, if your Valentines are your best girlfriends, there’s something special for y’all, too: The Pretty Things Peepshow at the Kessler Theater, 1230 W. Davis St., kicks off at 8 p.m. with tutorials on how to achieve that perfect pin-up girl hair, makeup and vintage style. Get all gussied up and then stick around for a bombshell burlesque performance afterward. Cost is $40 and reservations can be made at prettythingsacademy.com.
