We always thought the greatest honor for a centenarian was a shout out from Willard Scott on The Today Show, but a bona fide Texas Historic Landmark marker is a far bigger tribute. The Sons of Hermann Hall (3414 Elm St.) is turning 100 this year and celebrating the milestone (and their state landmark designation) with 100 days of special events, including an all-day shindig on Saturday, the official anniversary of the Hall's grand opening in 1910. It's hard to believe a venue now known for concerts and acoustic jams was originally a lodge and social hub for German immigrants in the early 1900s, but the Hall's history still endures as current lodge members have kept the legendary venue running to host performances by other Texas legends like Asleep at the Wheel and The Old 97's. The centennial festivities will kickoff with a presentation by City of Dallas officials and Sons of Hermann Hall Grand Lodge representatives, followed by music from Shoot Low Sheriff and The Cutlers, among others. If you can't be there to help blow out all those candles, you've got other opportunities to extend birthday wishes. There are celebratory weekly pancakes breakfasts and rummage sales through July 9.
