Ever been parking? You know, in public, just for the thrill of it? Well, this time you can do it with people in more than 35 countries across the world, and you don’t have to risk breaking curfew or pissing off your mom. In fact, she’ll probably be pretty proud of you. Friday is International PARK(ing) Day, and once again, Dallas is getting into the public display of affection for community involvement and alternative venues. Citizens, businesses and groups organize to turn downtown’s parking spaces into mini parks. Last year, there were more than 50 temporary parks ranging from a reading lounge to an outdoor art gallery to a yoga studio. The parks will pop up on Main Street between Field and St. Paul streets (as well as other areas of downtown) with free activities beginning at 11 a.m. at Pegasus Plaza. The public can visit the various parks and enjoy live music from a variety of local acts until 7 p.m., at which point the afterparty begins at City Tavern, 1402 Main St. Beyond that, whatever parking you do, we don’t suggest writing home about.
