My typical Friday night is dinner and a DVD. But sometimes my obsessive-compulsive nature kicks in, and I have to dine appropriately for whatever I'm watching. For instance, there's just no way I could eat pizza while watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and a nice cold beer is the best accessory to Black Snake Moan. The opening of this year's 24th Annual Dallas Wine and Food Festival is on the same track with Gourmet Cinema, where they'll pair off the film Sideways with some glazed salmon, prime steakhouse burgers and chocolate truffles. I imagine wine will be served as well. A fine start to a festival that will also showcase local winemakers at Texas Salute!, seminars on entertaining at the Milestone Culinary Arts Center and a heck of a lot of food and wine-tasting all over town. Personally, I'm looking forward to Alo and Goodbye: Antojitos y Mojitos. Alo's appetizers are stunning bits of heavenly bites, and their mojitos are worth the next day's hangover. The Dallas Wine and Food Festival runs through Sunday at various locations. For more information, call 214-741-6888 or visit dallaswinefest.com.
