I am no sucker for musicals; for the most part, they embarrass me. I am a complete moron for rock and roll, though, and maybe, just maybe, if a musical is really and truly a product of the heart and soul of rock and roll, it might even snare a non-sucker like me. As far as I know, there are only a couple of musicals that have hit this particular nail on the head, the 1975 beloved gender-bending midnight-show classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and John Cameron Mitchell's 2001 gender-bending masterpiece, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hedwig breaks the mold, telling a unique story that is both gorgeously heartbreaking and lusciously rocktacular. Hedwig pulls a Rocky, playing the midnight show at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane, Friday and Saturday. Call 214-764-9106 or visit landmarktheatres.com for information.
