A delusional American general, insanely obsessed with Commies and precious bodily fluids, just initiated Plan R, and now American bombers are headed to Moscow to drop the big one. But there's a problem: Those sneaky surprise-loving Russians built a doomsday device! Who would have thought accidental nuclear attacks could be so funny? (Especially when they stem from a supposed Commie plot of fluoridating American water. No worries, you'll get it after the movie.) Faced with global nuclear annihilation and lacking the three-letter Plan R recall code, U.S. President Merkin Muffley, one of three characters played by Peter Sellers, desperately tries to reverse the mission and even calls on the Soviets for advice. With the help of Dr. Strangelove, a Nazi scientist, the Americans attempt to save the human race from obliteration by H-bomb. Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb satirizes the social absurdities of politicians, soldiers and scientists, in ways as funny (and somewhat truthful) today as they were in 1964. The Inwood Theatre has a weekend screening of the only comedy in Kubrick's filmography. Dr. Strangelove plays at midnight Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane.
