Bring It With Singing
The original Bring It On, with its race- and class-tinged throw-down between competing squads of cheerleaders, was the quintessential date movie. It had girl power and cheerleaders for her and Kirsten Dunst, Eliza Dushku and Gabrielle Union in really ... um ... pert short skirts for him. That’s the sort of thing that explains the movie’s four sequels and a continuing franchise that is now coming to the stage with Bring it On: The Musical. Before you get nostalgic for the young Dunst, just know it’s a completely different cast and plot from the previous five films, with its own original soundtrack. Taking creative cues from the hilarious Jeff Whitty (Avenue Q) and Tom Kitt (Next to Normal) this musical promises to basket toss you into hysterics. Performances are at 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, February 14-20 at the Music Hall at Fair Park, 909 1st Ave. Tickets range from $15 to $80. This cheering crusade is appropriate for everyone ages 10 and up. For more information, call 214-421-5678 or visit dallassummermusicals.org.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Feb. 14. Continues through Feb. 20, 2012
