Humans have celebrated and feared fire since the moment that Prometheus brought it down from Mount Olympus. Like the other classical elements (earth, air, water), fire has the power to sustain life or destroy it, and it's only in the last 400,000 years that humans have learned to control it. Fire's uses haven't changed that much in the past 400 millennia: cooking food, warming homes, destroying brush, making war. And in deference to this force of nature, human civilizations--even as far back as ancient Rome--have employed firefighters to keep the blaze controlled. Come celebrate the work of these men and women at the fourth annual Fire Fest 2010, a shindig to benefit the Dallas Firefighters Museum and the Dallas Fire Heat Baseball Club. Relax in the beer garden and give a high five to America's heroes at the Ginger Man, 2718 Boll St., on Saturday. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. Live music will be provided by The Killdares, and there will be dozens of beers on tap and in bottles to quench even the fieriest thirst.
