Cans Do It
NorthPark Center (8687 N. Central Expressway) is a mall for more than just random shopping and people watching. With its world-class art collection and special year-round events, NorthPark is a destination for people who want to revel in the cool and interesting, and one of the biggest event draws every year is the Canstruction competition. Last year Canstruction collected more than 2 million pounds of food, and organizers hope for an even bigger draw this year. For almost 10 years now, the food charity event has called on the creative minds of local community members such as architects, engineers, designers, contractors and students to put their best foot forward in raising awareness of and collecting food for the hungry by using full cans and boxes of food to build structures. All 23 local canstructions will be on display through October 16 before the food is donated to the North Texas Food Bank. Mall hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. For more information about the event, visit canstruction.org.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 16, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Oct. 1. Continues through Oct. 16, 2011
