Lea Hernandez may not be a household name like Stan Lee, but when tragedy struck the manga-influenced comic book artist of such titles as Killer Princesses and Rumble Girls, her fellow creators leapt to her aid faster than a speeding bullet and didn't even have to pull on any spandex to lend a helping hand. On September 6, Hernandez's home in San Antonio burned down, with most of her original artwork succumbing to the flames. CAPE 2.5 is a benefit for the Hernandez family, with comic creators producing works on site for immediate auction to the beat of a spinning DJ. Scheduled to appear are Scott Kurtz of PVP, James O'Barr of The Crow and Brock Rizy of Viper Comics. But the guest of honor will be Hernandez herself, as the event will provide her a little "live art therapy" and remind her of all the friends she has in the comic book community. CAPE 2.5 takes flight 9 p.m. Saturday at the Metro Grill, 4425 N. Central Expressway. Call 214-219-8697 or visit zeuscomics.com.
Sat., Sept. 30, 9 p.m.
